Cool cotton is ideal for dishes

“Peaches and Cream by Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co. was one of the most famous and wear-resistant cotton threads. They are usually known as kitchen cotton because they are so often used for things like kitchen towels and washcloths.

It is easy to understand why yarn has so many admirers: it is soft, durable, colourful, versatile and is an excellent all-round cotton for use in a variety of projects.

The name of the yarn still exists, but the yarn produced by Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co. has been discontinued. The name is now used for the yarn line produced by Spinrite which also makes Lily Sugar’N Cream, another popular kitchen cotton yarn.

To note the difference, Spinrite yarn is produced in Canada and the original in the United States. The older version has an image of a jug on the label; the newer version has a large peach on the label.

Care instructions: Machine wash clothes inside out in a delicate cycle in warm water, without bleach. The machine is dry at a low level; for best results, remove items from the machine until they are completely dry.

Knitting

Peaches and cream are probably most commonly compared with Lily’s Sugar’N Cream, another widely available kitchen cotton. However, those who work with both threads will notice great differences.

“Peaches and Cream is softer – you can tell by just crushing the balls, even before you start knitting. For this reason, Peaches & Creme seems to be easier to knit. At least it’s more pleasant because the yarn is not so rough in your hands.

In terms of performance in knitting yarns are quite similar. They’re both made of four layers of cotton, woven together pretty tightly. Both yarns are easy to work with, although the softness of Peaches & Creme makes it a little more pleasant. This can make the knitting move a little faster.

The stitches are slightly uneven, which is typical of cotton yarns.
There are almost no problems with splitting during knitting, and the needles usually find their way between rather than through the yarns.
The horizontal curl in a stem stitch is very small and not much more vertical. What’s there is often easily washed away.
The knitting pattern also relaxed the wash a little by loosening the stitches.
Bright yellow yarn did not show any noticeable dye release, but the ball strip warns that bleeding is possible.

Peaches and cream would be an excellent choice for all traditional kitchen types of cotton, such as kitchen towels and bath soaps. You might also like the napkins because they are so soft.

Also, because of its softness, you may consider it for other projects and garments that you would like to tie to cotton yarn. It can be a nice summer hat for a baby or even a top. And since yarn is so important, you can even do big projects such as throwing in warm seasons or picnic blankets without breaking a bank.

Overall, Peaches & Creme is a great all-round cotton yarn that you will turn to again and again for basic knitting projects and more. You can also become obsessed with knitting crockery rags (there’s a free pattern on the ball strip) as well as learning different ways to apply cotton to your life.
